PI – Prof. Xin LI 李新
BDS, MDS (Endo) (WHU); MDS, PhD (KU Leuven)

Professor Xin LI is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Endodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry, the University of Hong Kong.
Her research interests include dental materials, vital pulp therapy, AI in Endodontics and precision endodontics. She has published over 30 articles in Q1 journals and received a Senior Robert Frank Award 2nd Prize (Basic Science). She has been invited to deliver lectures in international conferences such as IADR General Session and CED-IADR Oral Health Research Congress. She is also a licensed dentist in Europe, and is motivated to integrate the latest scientific evidence into healthcare to ensure high-quality, evidence-base dental practice.

PhD Students

Kaiting Yuan
PhD Student (2024–)
BDS (SYSU), MDS (SYSU)
Kaiting obtained both her B.S. and M.S. degrees from Sun Yat-sen University. Her research focuses on dental materials, particularly the development of biomaterials for remineralization and pulp tissue regeneration.

Yuguo Dai
PhD Student (2024–)
BDS (HUST), MDS (SCU)
Yuguo Dai is a PhD candidate in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), under the supervision of Dr. Xin Li. Her research focuses on dental pulp regeneration, neuro-immune interactions, and biomaterial-based tissue engineering. She is particularly interested in understanding how interactions between Schwann cells and macrophages influence dental pulp inflammation, repair, and regeneration. Her current work combines organ-on-a-chip technologies, biofabrication, imaging, and transcriptomics to study these interactions. She aims to develop physiologically relevant human models that could reduce reliance on animal experiments.
She completed her MDS in Pediatric Dentistry at West China College of Stomatology, Sichuan University, where she studied biomaterial-based dentin–pulp regeneration and tissue engineering. She is currently a visiting PhD researcher at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), working with Dr. Cristiane Miranda Franca on microphysiological models of dental pulp.
Outside the lab, she enjoys photography, reading and rock climbing. She is fascinated by the underlying principles connecting art, nature, and living systems, and believes that seemingly different systems often share common patterns.

Xin Xie
PhD Student (2026–)
BDS (FJMU), MSc (HKU)
Xin Xie earned her Bachelor’s degree in Stomatology from Fujian Medical University and her MSc in Dental Materials Science from the University of Hong Kong. Her MSc research mainly focused on dynamic navigation for endodontic microsurgery. She is currently focusing on vital pulp therapy and a multiplexed point-of-care biosensing platform for oral inflammatory disease diagnosis, under the supervision of Prof. Xin Li, Prof. James Kit Hon Tsoi, and Prof. Jiegang Yang. With a great passion for exploring, she enjoys traveling, photography, painting, and singing.
MPhil Students

Xu Han
MPhil Student (2025–)
BDS (SCU)
Xu Han earned her Bachelor's degree in Stomatology from West China School of Stomatology, Sichuan University. Her research focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of dental pulp inflammation. She is currently working on neuro-immune crosstalk in dental pulp tissue under inflammatory conditions. In her free time, she enjoys painting, cycling, and traveling.
